Building Better Opportunities

Building Better Opportunities is a project that helps people who are furthest from the labour market to find work, training and employment opportunities.

It is focused on people with multiple disadvantages who are aged 25 and over and unemployed.

The project brings together trusted and experienced local voluntary and community sector organisations, and delivers job coaching, training and employment support.

The project is a partnership across the three unitary authorities in East Berkshire.

In 2017, Slough Borough Council and partners were successful in securing a grant of £878,000 to work with at least 260 participants in Slough, Bracknell and RBWM.

To date, the project has successfully assisted more than 100 people with a range of needs – including people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and ex-offenders – to find work and training opportunities.

The project was due to complete in June 2020. However, the funders The National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund, have extended the project for another two years, up to June 2022, with an additional £878,000 of external grant funding.

This will allow us to continue to deliver the project beyond the original date and to increase the number of people we help.
