Spencer Road, Langley to close
Spencer Road in Langley is to close from 6 February for five months so work can take place for the housing development on Langley Road.
Spencer Road will be closed from its junction with Langley Road to the junction with Ives Road to everyone other than residents of the closed section.
Work taking place during the five months (until the end of June) will include utilities for the new Barratt housing development on the site of the old BT depot on Langley Road and junction improvements.
Ultimately a roundabout for the junction of Langley Road and Spencer Road will be installed to help prevent congestion and free up traffic movements in the area.
Councillor Fiza Matloob, commissioner for transport and highways, said: “By closing Spencer Road to through traffic we can cut down the amount of time these works will take from seven months to five.
“Users of Langley Road will not have to suffer the congestion caused by three-way traffic lights which have proved to cause horrendous congestion when they have been in place at this junction in the recent past.”
Diversions will be in place during the closure and are likely to be along Cockett Road.
