Active Minds programme
Active Minds is a timetable of activity, sports, arts and workshops that aims to help you improve and manage your mental health.
The council launched the programme on 3 June and it runs until the end of August. There is something for everyone, from workshops to yoga to virtual reality. The focus has been on bringing together different organisations to give residents access to activities that are tailored to help your mental health. All of the activities and events are open to anyone aged 18 plus in Slough, and all are free or low cost.
The activities are led by peer navigators, people who have lived experience of mental health problems. Local organisations have also become involved in the programme such as Sport in Mind, Run Talk Run, and Friends in Need.
Councillor Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “This is an innovative programme that looks to improve the mental health of our residents, and bring people together, whilst promoting being active.
“It’s so important to look after our mental health as well as our physical health, and inclusive programmes like this in Slough encourage us.”
All activities in the Active Minds programme:
- may help in managing your mood, help with low confidence levels, help lower your anxiety levels and boost your energy
- provide an open and encouraging platform to talk about your mental health on a strictly confidential basis.
