Keeping our High Street clean

If you have been out and about in the High Street, you may have seen our new street cleaner, called the Hako 1600, scrubbing the granite pavement to bring it back to its former glory.

Since it hit the streets at the end of September, Hako has clocked up 422 hours of cleaning – purely on the High Street!

The difference with Hako compared to a regular street cleaner is that it has a scrubbing deck, to really help remove the dirt and grime and maintain the colour of the granite and vibrancy of the artwork in the paving, which was installed as part of the Art at the Centre programme back in 2005.

Marc Scott, waste and street scene services manager, said: “This little machine is doing a fantastic job. The original black and white of the granite is now shining through and the High Street is looking much cleaner and fresher.”
